Weekend at the Sunseeker

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of staying at The Sunseeker. An 80s brick motel reimagined into a boutqiue accomodation experience for conscious travellers. Located just outside of Byron, The Sunseeker is nestled away of the hustle and bustle but within arms of reach of most places and beaches.

With beautifully considered rooms, bungalow style stays, a private residence, poolside lounging and an abundance of lush, tropical gardens, this is the perfect weekend stay. One thing I love about this place is how they pride themselves on continuing to be as sustainable and conscious in anyway they can. We got to stay in one of the Bungalows which had an outdoor bath and was the perfect way to unwind after a busy day out.

On Friday night we started with a Japanese dinner at Moonlight then made our way to The Sun Ranch where good times are always promised. We had wine and spent the evening listening to vinyls. Tucked just outside of Bangalow, this place is the perfect stay if you want to retreat to the hills and indulge in all that the surrounding towns have to offer. Occasionally they hold events for the public to attend and it’s the perfect opportunity to connect and have conversations with others.

When it rains, this is the perfect excuse to have a shop. Johnson Lane has so many beautiful stores including Nagnata, Deiji Studios or Venroy. I then love going to the industrial estate and exploring The Habitat which includes Lottie Hall, The Bali Tailor and so many more! I always like to pop into Tones for a matcha before this. (The only matcha in Byron that tastes traditional)

One of my favourite spots in the Northern Rivers is You Beauty. A corner wine bar which is the perfect balance between classic pub favourites and fine dining. Here you’ll find croc toast and kangaroo skewers as a feature on the menu (which are two of my favourites) aside from this the steak is paired nicely with a few side dishes and a glass of wine.

The weather finally decided to clear up on Sunday and we made our way (once again) back into the hinterlands for a long lunch at The Hut where they celebrate the Mediterranean way of life. The seafood is a must here as everything is so fresh. Two of my favourites are the scallops which comes with a saffron and leek puree then the whole baked snapper. The atmosphere is always so lovely and they welcome you as if you were family.

During the weekdays Highlife is a nice spot for good coffee and organic, fresh and local food. I’m always going for the same thing and that’s the mix plate which features there sprouted hemp bread, avo, ferments, eggs, tahini, peppers and pesto. I occasionally swap the eggs for mackerel and find everything pairs together so nicely.

When the weather does clear, It’s always nice to explore new beaches and Whites which is tucked away just off Broken Head Road is a must. It’s always nice to have so many options of beaches to visit as The Pass and Wategos can can get very crowded.
